November 1 is here, which means it's time to start on another National Novel Writer's Month As those of you who have read my rather unsubstantial blog know, I actually started this blog last year when I discovered NaNoWriMo, which I also started on the late side. And if you've been reading this, you also know I work best under extreme pressure. The 24 hour comics day (for which over 1/3 of this blog's entries were written, in a single night!) was great for that.
On the other hand, I don't work so well when I'm sick or worrying about money, and right now I am fighting off both. The sick part I think I can avoid: more tea, less coffee, and hopefully more sleep. Unfortunately, I like to take my extra sleep in the morning, and that's the time I've set aside for my NaNoWriMo work, before I head in to teach. Sooooo we'll see how that goes. As far as the money thing goes, well, I do have the lovely TIP JAR if anyone wants to contribute over the next 30 days.
What's in it for you? Well, I'm planning on posting daily for the next month, and any tips I receive or even any positive comments in the blog that come along will encourage me to keep that up. I also plan on posting parts of the novel as I write it, but I may give extra-special access to those who donate.
However, because I'm the overly scrupulous guy that I am, I will say, maybe wait a day or two before donating if you're just in it for the reading. I mean, this book could SUCK. Big time. Keep in mind that the guidebook to NaNoWriMo is called "No Plot? No Problem!" Well, I do have a plot, and it does have some problems. But the only way to do this is to jump in and DO IT, so I'm just going to charge forward and hope for the best.
Hey, it worked for Charles Dickens and Armistead Maupin... Hmm, I already discovered a "Tale of Two Cities" allusion in my outline for the book, and Armistead Maupin wrote "Tales of the City"... and both were originally serialized... SEE? This is the kind of silly thinking that gets me off track.
You'll be hearing a lot more about such things for the next 30 days, rest assured.
For now, I am going to go to bed so that I can get up and write my first 1,666 words in the morning!
